ESPN's Myron Medcalf offers one storyline to watch in every Division I men's basketball conference as the 2026-27 season begins Sunday with Villanova facing Notre Dame in Rome.
He notes the offseason has been consumed by the unresolved fifth-year eligibility fight, with the NCAA still in court against members of the Class of 2022. One example from the piece: Vermont won five of the America East's eight automatic NCAA tournament berths between 2017 and 2024.
