Emergency & Weather

West Tennessee storm preparedness and official alerts

In an emergency, call 911. Raw 100.5 is a community radio station, not an emergency service, and this page does not replace an official warning. Use the official sources below for alerts.

Live National Weather Service alerts for Jackson

No active NWS Memphis alerts for the Jackson area right now. Checked 4:49 pm.

Source: National Weather Service Memphis (MEG) via api.weather.gov for Jackson, TN. Always follow official guidance; for emergencies call 911.

When we sign on: emergency alerts on Raw 100.5

Low-power FM stations take part in the Emergency Alert System (EAS), the national public warning system. Alerts are created by authorized federal, state and local officials, and many start with the National Weather Service. The FCC does not create or send them (FCC: Emergency Alert System β†—).

When Raw 100.5 signs on, our plan is to carry EAS alerts as the FCC rules require and to pass along information from local officials such as Madison County Emergency Management.

West Tennessee storm prep

Tornadoes

  • A watch means conditions could produce a tornado. A warning means one is happening or about to.
  • Go to the lowest floor, an interior room away from windows. Cover your head.
  • A mobile home is not safe in a tornado. Know where your nearest sturdy shelter is.

Severe thunderstorms

  • Damaging wind, hail and lightning can come with little warning.
  • When thunder roars, go indoors. Stay away from windows and unplug sensitive equipment.
  • Secure or bring in outdoor items.

Flooding

  • Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through flooded roads.
  • Move to higher ground if water is rising. Stay out of floodwater.
  • Know the flood-prone roads on your routes.

Ice storms and winter weather

  • Ice can bring down trees and power lines. Plan for outages of a day or more.
  • Stay off icy roads. Keep warm clothing, blankets and a battery radio ready.
  • Never run a generator or grill indoors. It can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

NWS winter safety β†—

Extreme heat

  • Drink water, rest in the shade or air conditioning, and limit outdoor work in the afternoon.
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car.
  • Check on older neighbors and anyone without air conditioning.

We are planning optional text and email alerts for severe weather and community-safety notices.

Not connected yet. This sign-up does not send alerts yet. It needs an alert service chosen and connected (text and email), with opt-in consent, before it is switched on.
