Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is leaving the conference for a job outside college sports. Kansas chancellor Doug Girod, who chairs the Big 12 board, told ESPN that Yormark raised the idea nearly 10 days ago and the board formalized his departure terms Friday with a vote.
Yormark plans to stay through January to ensure a smooth transition, and the league will launch a national search for its sixth commissioner. Girod said Yormark's legacy will be guiding the conference to an early renegotiation of its television deal, which landed with ESPN and Fox. Yormark took over in 2022, about a year after Oklahoma and Texas voted to leave for the SEC.
