USC upset No. 2 Ohio State 30-18 on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in steady rain, keeping its College Football Playoff hopes alive and giving coach Lincoln Riley a signature win amid questions about his future.
The Trojans (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten) led 20-9 at halftime and did not allow a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter against the Buckeyes (6-2, 4-1), who were without starting quarterback Julian Sayin. Freshman receiver Trent Mosley had 145 all-purpose yards and tight end Mark Bowman had a 71-yard catch-and-run with a hurdle. Ohio State had 11 penalties. A week earlier USC lost 24-7 to Wisconsin. "Every game is its own season," Riley said.
