G20 foreign ministers ended two days of talks in Atlanta on Saturday without agreeing on several major security issues, and no joint communique was issued.
What came out
Divisions over Russia's war in Ukraine overshadowed the start of the meeting and affected its outcome. Instead of a communique, Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a chairman's statement summarizing the talks. It reported no agreements but listed priorities such as energy and food security and freedom of navigation. Rubio told reporters he would not claim the group was close to universally accepted solutions, though he said some members are working together, especially on supply chains and critical minerals.
On Saturday Rubio held side talks with counterparts from Australia, India and Japan and led a final session on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red, Black and South China seas.
