Holmgren (knee) out 8-10 weeks; Thunder reconsider Agbaji, sources say

Sports · Sunday, November 1, 2026

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren will be out eight to 10 weeks because of a small patellar tendon tear in his right knee, the team announced Friday night.

A third starter down

Holmgren joins Jalen Williams (fractured left fibula and dislocated ankle) and Cason Wallace (torn labrum) as Thunder starters ruled out for extended time this week. Williams and Wallace were hurt Sunday against the Clippers, the same day Holmgren first felt mild discomfort in the knee. The team chose a "biological treatment" on Friday. Williams had surgery Wednesday and Wallace on Friday, and both will be reevaluated before the end of the regular season.

Roster move on hold

The Thunder have stepped back from signing free agent forward Ochai Agbaji, who had been set to join after the first two injuries, so they can reevaluate their open roster spot. His health was not the reason. Last season Holmgren averaged 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks and earned first-team All-Defensive and third-team All-NBA honors.
