How Lexington football's Ross Wilson led the Tigers to first 10-0 season since 2011

Sports · Friday, October 30, 2026 at 11:01 PM CT

Lexington quarterback Ross Wilson capped the Tigers' 10-0 regular season on Friday, Oct. 30, with one of his biggest games yet: eight touchdowns in a 70-36 victory over Dyer County.

The night in numbers

According to MaxPreps, Wilson threw for 291 yards and six touchdowns, completing 81.3% of his passes, and also ran for 50 yards and two more scores. That adds up to eight total touchdowns. MaxPreps noted that Wilson has averaged 3.3 passing touchdowns per game over his last three games, compared with 1.1 in the previous 19. Cameron Smith was his top target, catching passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

A 10-0 finish

The win lifted Lexington to 10-0. The Jackson Sun, in its game story, reported it was the first 10-0 season for the Tigers since 2011, and began its piece with Wilson's family connection to that team: his cousin Russ Henderson was a senior defensive end on the 2011 squad and made a point of telling his younger cousin about it. "Now," the paper wrote, Wilson "will have his own stories to tell."

Lexington's season has been dominant. MaxPreps reported that the Tigers have won six games by more than 32 points this season. The Oct. 30 game itself was a shootout, with Dyer County scoring 36, more than the Tigers had allowed in any of the other four recent games MaxPreps listed.

Defense helped too

The Tigers' defensive line sacked Dyer County's quarterback seven times, with Zach Grissom accounting for three of them.

Dyer County finished 4-6, having lost six of its last eight games. MaxPreps listed no further games on either team's schedule as of Friday night.
