Lakers governor Jeanie Buss is fighting her siblings in court over their effort to sell the family's shares of the team. In a filing Wednesday, her lawyers accused brothers Joey and Jesse Buss of a "cloak and dagger" media campaign against her and said they are jealous that their father, Dr. Jerry Buss, chose her to run the team.
What the siblings want
The Buss siblings want to sell the family's remaining Lakers shares to a group led by Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, which is seeking to buy the team from majority owner Mark Walter at a $12.5 billion valuation. A sale would end Jeanie Buss's run as governor. Walter bought a majority stake in 2025 at a $10 billion valuation, and the family kept a 17.82% stake along with go-along rights. On Aug. 17, five of her siblings voted to sell their shares using those rights.
Next step
Jeanie Buss asked a judge to block the sale. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 8 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
