A celebration at the Jackson-Madison County Library on Friday, Oct. 30, honored Michael Baker, the longtime audiovisual librarian who is now retired, with a day named for him.
Michael Baker Day
Madison County Mayor AJ Massey and Jackson Mayor Scott Conger formally declared Oct. 30 "Michael Baker Day." The proclamation recognizes Baker's 43-year commitment to the library and his role in building Jackson's blues festival and arts scene, WBBJ-TV reported.
A career bringing culture to readers
As the library's AV librarian, Baker helped bring authors, musicians and new technology to local readers. He said he hopes people mark his day with "merriment." Explaining his work highlighting local musicians, he said: "I just thought it was important to highlight the contributions that these people made to not only local music, but to national and international music."
Baker said that although he is retired, he hopes to keep helping with events downtown.
