Overton Park has taken on a medieval feel this weekend for the first Memphis Ren Faire, with blacksmiths, fortune tellers, fairies, elves and fanciful costumes. The fair runs through Sunday.
Organizer Jack Daniels, a local promoter, said he grew up going to Renaissance fairs and noticed Memphis has food and music festivals but nothing like this. He hopes it becomes a twice-a-year event. About 2,000 tickets were sold in advance, which is unusual in a city where most people buy at the gate, and he hoped 3,500 people would attend by the time it closes Sunday.
