Memphis men's soccer can clinch a spot in the American Conference Championships Sunday, Nov. 1, at Tulsa. Kickoff at Hurricane Soccer Stadium is at 6 p.m. Central, with the match streaming on ESPN+, according to the school's preview.
The Tigers
Memphis is 7-3-5 overall and 2-1-4 in conference play after a 4-3 loss to Charlotte on Wednesday, its first conference defeat, despite scoring three first-half goals. The team has scored 36 goals, its most since 2011, and has had 11 multi-goal matches, the most since 2012. Renan Syrio has eight goals, five in his last five matches, and Keanan Bader has three goals and an assist in his last two. Goalkeeper Mathias Christensen was subbed out after allowing three goals in 24 minutes against Charlotte.
Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane are 7-4-4 and 4-1-2 and have already clinched a tournament berth after a 2-1 win over FIU. Luc Achermann-Stanfield leads with eight goals and five assists, and goalkeeper Carlito Saylon has a 1.40 goals-against average with five clean sheets. Memphis is 10-12-3 all-time against Tulsa but has won four straight in the series.
What's at stake
A win would lock in the No. 4 seed and a home first-round game. A draw would leave Memphis at 11 points with several teams able to reach 12, and a loss would make hosting highly unlikely but would not end postseason hopes.
