Open enrollment for 2027 Affordable Care Act coverage began Sunday, Nov. 1, in most states, according to HealthCare.gov.
The key dates
In states that use the federal marketplace, people who enroll by Dec. 15 can have coverage start Jan. 1. People who enroll after that, up to Jan. 15, would have coverage begin Feb. 1. Some state-run marketplaces set their own deadlines. HealthCare.gov and Blue Cross Blue Shield list later end dates in several states, including Jan. 23 in Massachusetts, Jan. 29 in Virginia, and Jan. 31 in California, the District of Columbia, New York and Rhode Island.
What to do first
HealthCare.gov advises people with an existing plan to review it, update their household size and estimated income, and compare options instead of simply letting a plan renew automatically. Financial help is based on the income estimate, so an outdated figure can change what you pay.
Premiums
KFF has published a list of nine things to watch for this enrollment period. Premium increases are covered in a separate Raw 100.5 story on why premiums are rising.
