Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola said she knew nothing about an effort to put a candidate with the same name as Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan on Alaska's ballot, as the Justice Department escalated its investigation.
Peltola's statement
Peltola said she knew only about herself and the incumbent and was "not interested in tricking voters," according to the AP. Earlier she called a New York Times report on the matter a "distraction."
Federal escalation
Reports say the Justice Department issued dozens of grand-jury subpoenas and records-preservation requests, and the FBI contacted donors to Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. about possible voter confusion. Gov. Mike Dunleavy has ordered a separate state investigation.
