Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina told PBS's Geoff Bennett that President Trump should take stock of the coming election outcome and own it, and he warned about the direction of his party in a new book.
The book's argument
In "How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents," Tillis says Republican lawmakers fear challenging the president, that Congress is giving up power, and that some of Trump's closest advisers are steering him toward failure. He said there is a lack of feedback between the White House and Congress, dating back to a letter he sent colleagues in April 2025, and that voters can absorb only so much change. He estimates at least 30 Republican senators privately share his concerns.
