Union University's homecoming week hit one of its liveliest stretches Friday, Oct. 30, with the annual tailgate and the championship games of intramural flag football, which WBBJ-TV called one of the campus's largest student traditions.
The championship games
Greek life organizations took the field. In the women's title game, Zeta Tau Alpha faced Chi Omega. On the men's side, Sigma Alpha Epsilon played Lambda Chi Alpha. The station's report did not give final scores or say which teams won.
Student Life Representative Joe Ball said many students turned out to support their friends. "We have a bunch of students out here. They're cheering on their friends. It's a fun spirit event," he said.
A week with service built in
Ball said the week was not only about games. More than 600 members of the campus community served across the local area on Tuesday during Campus and Community Day.
What comes next
Union's homecoming events were set to wrap up Saturday. The day includes the tip-off of the men's and women's basketball season, the crowning of Mr. and Miss Union and the awarding of the Homecoming Cup. "Tomorrow is kind of one of our big homecoming days where our men's and women's basketball season kicks off," Ball said.
Union University is a private Christian university in Jackson. Students, faculty and alumni all took part in this year's homecoming programming.
