Local actress stars in horror movie filmed at asylum in West Virginia

Liberty Knowles of Lexington works at a tea and coffee shop while she goes to school, but acting has been her passion since she was 15. She told WBBJ she has been landing lead roles since she was 18.

Her latest film, The Asylum, was shot at a real former asylum in West Virginia, about nine hours from home. Knowles plays one of five workers hired to perform at an asylum attraction on Halloween night who end up taken over by spirits. Her character is named Tasha, according to her IMDbPro listing.

The production was announced in September 2025 by JCFilms Studios as a supernatural horror feature directed by Jason Campbell, with filming set for October 2025 in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The cast announced for the film includes Dean Cain, Julie McCullough, Eddie McClintock, Denny Nolan, Bj Mezek and Richard Grieco.

Knowles said the shoot lasted about a week in cold October weather, with days that ran roughly 12 hours and wrapped around 4 a.m. "It was a very cool experience," she said, adding that as a big horror fan she enjoyed touring the asylum as well as filming in it.

Locals can see the movie on the big screen. The Asylum is playing at the Princess Theater, and the last showing is Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. Knowles said she plans to keep auditioning for leading roles.
